Sloan Introduces New Michelin® Branded Wiper Blades to Heavy Duty Market

Bulk blade program is ideal for fleet usage

(Holland, MI) January 3rd, 2007 – Sloan Transportation Products is now marketing Michelin® branded wiper blades to the North American heavy duty aftermarket. The Michelin Heavy Duty Wiper Blade is offered in both a regular and winter blade model.

According to Douglas S. Thomson, vice president, sales and marketing, Sloan Transportation Products, the company is making available a Michelin bulk blade program that is ideal for fleet usage because it provides a premium quality, branded blade, while saving time, space and costs. “We are among the first heavy duty company’s to offer such a program,” explained Thomson.

Michelin is one of the premier brand names and we are proud to offer this product line to the heavy duty marketplace,” said Thomson.

The Michelin bulk blades are poly bagged with a Michelin label and come 10 blades per box. With this Sloan Transportation-exclusive bulk program, a fleet technician can easily access a replacement blade without struggling to open a sealed blister package.

The Michelin Heavy Duty Wiper Blade has a graphite coating over the rubber blade that reduces friction and extends blade life. Hardware components are manufactured from heavy duty 304 stainless steel. The high nickel content of the 304 guarantees added strength as well as protection from rust and corrosion. Metal rivets strengthen the assembly when compared to competitor blades that are assembled with a crimp. The multi-arm connector fits 90 percent of blades on the market, ensuring a quick blade change with little downtime.

The winter blade model contains a premium silicone boot that resists cracking down to minus 40 degrees Celsius. The boot repels ice, snow, and road chemicals away from internal working parts.

The company also offers a recloseable blister package program for either over-the-counter or retail sales from a point-of-sale display. A POS display is available that contains ten of the four most popular sizes (16”, 18”, 20”, 22”).  The POS display is branded both Michelin and Sloan and is designed for increased impulse purchases and expanded merchandising.

Sloan Introduces New MAXXDuty Hose Assemblies

New plating protection provides superior corrosion resistance

Holland, MI- November 8th, 2006 - To help provide superior protection against corrosion, Sloan Transportation Products has introduced MAXXDuty™ Hose Assemblies that feature a new plating material that is better able to withstand damage caused by the new de-icing agents that are increasingly being used by many municipalities and private snow removal companies to treat highways.

“In the past most government agencies and private companies used salt to de-ice roads throughout northern regions,” said Chris Terryn, Sloan Transportation product manager. “The increased use of calcium and magnesium chloride is not only less expensive than salt, but has also led to an alarming increase in the corrosion of heavy-duty vehicle components.”

“Previously, manufactured parts could better resist salt’s corrosive nature, but standard platings no longer offer the same level of protection from these new de-icing agents.”

Of particular susceptibility to corrosion are the steel crimped fittings attached to the brass part of the hose assembly. Sloan tested several different options to plate the steel crimped fittings before settling on the MAXXDuty plating.  The material was originally designed for the military in naval applications to protect parts exposed to severe salt spray that often required frequent replacement due to corrosion.

Recent testing by an independent lab in a CASS (Copper Accelerated Salt Spray) cabinet, showed that the MAXXDuty plating when compared to a control sample provided superior protection. The results demonstrated that Sloan’s MAXXDuty™ Hose Assemblies are better able to resist corrosion that is common with conventional plating processes.

Sloan Granted Patent for Innovative Swing-Away/Shut-Off Gladhand

Exclusive design helps keep out contaminants

Holland, MI - May 17th, 2006-Sloan Transportation Products has been granted a patent for the industry’s first combination Swing-Away/Shut-Off gladhand. The product features an integral shut-off valve, which prevents contaminants from entering the air delivery system. Polyurethane gaskets ensure a positive seal and the 45-degree angle makes coupling and uncoupling faster and easier. Sloan engineered this gladhand as a single unit with fewer components to decrease wear and increase durability.  Drivers benefit because they no longer need to use a dummy coupler to seal the gladhand.

“This innovative gladhand helps a fleet manager or owner operator reduce hardware costs and installation time,” said Doug Thomson, vice president, sales and marketing, Sloan Transportation Products.

The Swing-Away/Shut-Off gladhand is one of several items that make up Sloan’s MAXXDuty™ with WeatherGuard Technology line of products which are designed to help keep trucks moving, no matter what the conditions.

TriMAXX Sealed Plug System Provides Industry’s Most

Secure Connection Between Truck & Trailer

Truck downtime due to corrosion is a thing of the past

Holland, MI - March 6th, 2006 - Sloan Transportation Products has developed a sealed plug that, when combined with the receptacle, provides the industry’s most secure and contaminant-free connection between tractor and trailer. The TriMAXX™ 7-way Sealed Plug System helps minimize truck downtime with the industry’s first integrated plug-face gasket that creates a positive seal to the receptacle, stopping corrosion from reaching the terminals.

The TriMAXX plug face gasket is made of durable PVC and encircles the terminal area, creating a sealed union regardless of receptacle’s manufacturer.  Sloan’s TriMAXX™ System features over-molded terminals preventing corrosion migration that typically attacks “industry standard” plug and socket connections due to contaminants back flowing down the cable.

Sloan engineers also developed an integrated drip-edge channel to eliminate back-flowing contaminants from coming down the cable into the plug/socket connection.  The drip edge channel extends the life of both the plug and socket by redirecting corrosive liquids away from the plug/socket connection.

To assist drivers in plugging and unplugging, Sloan has included a more secure gripping point to the system. Like all of its coiled electrical plugs, the Sloan TriMAXX™ 7-way sealed plug and receptacle meets SAE J560 requirements.

Sloan’s MAXXDuty 3-in-1 Wrap can mean strength in numbers

Holland, MI - January 5th -To help keep air hoses and electrical cables working in extreme winter weather conditions, Sloan Transportation Products has introduced its new MAXXDuty 3-in-1 Wrap, which consists of two 3/8-inch rubber air lines equipped with Sloan’s Dura-Grip handles and one 7-way ABS electrical cord, tightly bound together with a spiral wrapping.
“This product has been very popular with our Canadian customers who are exposed to some of the harshest conditions,” says Chris Terryn, product manager for Holland, Mich.-based Sloan. “When snow and ice accumulate on the top of the trailer and a driver makes a quick stop, the build-up can shift forward, falling between the truck and trailer, causing the coiled air and electrical lines to become damaged. By combining these three components into one tight bundle, our product provides added strength to protect vital systems against winter’s worst conditions.”
The 3-in-1 Wrap also helps keep coiled air lines from becoming entangled, a frequent problem during normal service that can limit the operational range and create difficulties in replacing a failed hose assembly; it also provides one assembly to store and maintain when bob-tailing. The Sloan 3-in-1 Wrap is available in 12-, 15- and 20-foot lengths; additional black wrap can be purchased in 15- or 100-foot lengths.
